Designer Admiration: Furne One/ Amato Couture

So another fabulous fashion week has come to a close here in Los Angeles. The stunning Vibiana Cathedral in downtown played host yet again to Style Fashion Week's festivities. Having attended their events over the past couple of years it is exciting to see how quickly and smoothly they've become a mainstay for new and established designers alike.  SFW presented 17 runway shows over the span of five days as well as a special evening with GenArt and their "Fresh Faces in Fashion" designer showcase and trunk show. Sounds by DJ Paper kept the crowded courtyard of bloggers, designers, stylists, photographers, musicians and fashion insiders upbeat as they mingled effortlessly. Friday October 19th marked the last night of S/S 2013 previews, appropriately topped off by Dubai based designer Furne One with his ever impressive and boundary pushing line,  Amato Haute Couture. While not for the everyday consumer (unless you want something special to roam the aisles of your local supermarket in...very discreet) his gowns are works of art you desperately wish you could slip into. New Music Monday 10.22.12

My ears have been starved until now. Thanks to the new Ipod commercial today I have taken in a new delightful sound that has me desperate to either break dance or scream and wail like a teenage girl. For those of you who have yet to witness the dapper young gentleman known as Willy Moon indulge now. His sound is reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly finessed with the heaviest studio beats and seriously criminal electric guitar that makes you want to be right there next to him dancing so awkwardly it's amazing ...ahhhh calm down, calm down. October Market Rewind- Spring Preview

Well hello there good lookin. October Market came and went like Missoni for Target. While just as colorful and visually encompassing, this was just the beginning of our Socialite Spring 2013 line. We have an arsenal of fabulosity still coming off the sewing machines everyday for your eager closets

...do try and remain calm. 

 

I know it's fall and time for spiked riding boots, faux fur everything, and praise the fashion grandmas who paved the way, boucle is back!...but, with that being said, I cannot wait for the embroidered rompers, eyelet tanks, flowing dresses and bright washes comprising all my outfits...sigh* 

Until then we shall wear them proudly as we roam about the office like old Miss Havisham.

New Music Monday 8.13.12

Good Morning Beautiful faces. Time to rise and shine and greet the afternoon with new music by Mr. Little Jeans, a.k.a. Monica Birkenes. This Norwegian delight introduced herself by covering Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" in a deliciously dark electro pop way that transforms the song into something completely different and entrancing. Her new single "Runaway" is off of her yet to be released debut album titled after none other but herself due later this summer.

Listen with caution, I currently want to expel myself from this office chair and bask in the sunshine at the beach... 3 Hour lunch anyone?

New Music Monday 7.30.12

Ahhh back to the best day of the week EVER!!!! Well maybe not the best but getting to share my favorites and fresh finds makes my day back to the office worth while. This week's artist is Lianne La Havas and another vocal gem from London. It's New Music Monday and time for our song du jour. "Tongue Tied" by GROUPLOVE makes the day so much brighter, hearing this when my alarm goes off at 7 a.m. makes life as we know it more than bearable. New Music Monday 7.16.12

Monday is steadily becoming my favorite day of the week as I get to share the musical wonders I stumble upon for your listening enjoyment. Some are old favorites while others are brand new jems, either way I will never deliver less than the best. This number by The Cults is infectiously happy and will get your heart a flutter as soon as you hear the xylophone tinker in. While the original is perfect, 2 Bears remixed it so expertly, who knew such a great song could get any better. Have a listen and go. Dancing at your desk strongly encouraged.

Artist Inspiration- Katie Monahan

Us designers and creative types get inspiration from all over. Whether its traversing the globe to far away and exotic places, admiring a runway show from the side of a catwalk, people watching on the bustling streets of a busy metropolis, hearing the pure and honest sound of great music, or being visually impacted by an artist's work you see in a gallery. All of these everyday delights to our senses keep pushing us forward to create and share more for the world to see.

I had one of those life altering experiences at Downtown Los Angeles' monthly artwalk not too long ago. Artist Katie Monahan has a way with layering color, fluid strokes, and textures that when combined make these dimensional striking pieces you can't help but lose yourself for hours in.
